What you should be doing
Self storage stores do not usually attract large groups of people. Members should be taking a common sense approach to the disease and encouraging staff and customers to follow basic hygiene methods as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO)
- Maintain social distancing by keeping people separated by 2m or by using screen shields
- Customers in the reception area or retail store must wear face coverings but they are not required when accessing their storage space
- Customers showing any symptoms of the virus should not be permitted anywhere in the store
- Wash your hands - soap or alcohol hand gel can kill the virus.
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing - ideally with a tissue - and wash your hands afterwards, to prevent the virus from spreading.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth - if your hands touch a surface contaminated by the virus, this could transfer it into your body.
- It would be prudent to place hand sanitiser in common areas like reception, and ensure that toilets and washrooms are stocked with soap or antibacterial hand cleanser.
Guidance on face coverings
Customers will need to wear face coverings when inside your reception area or retail shop. Staff are not required to wear face coverings if there is other suitable protection such as screens or a 2m seperation.
We reccomend when taking customers on a tour of the store both customers and staff wear face coverings.
Customers do not need to wear face coverings when accessing thier units.
Symptoms
Symptoms are very similar to a cold or flu. A fever, a cough, or difficulty breathing. The current evidence is that most cases appear to be mild. These symptoms do not necessarily mean you have Coronavirus as they are so similar to other common illnesses.
If you or your staff feel unwell, do not come into work. Stay indoors and avoid close contact with other people.
